Description:
The
Gekisai Kata (Gekisai Ichi & Gekisai Nei) where developed by Chojun Miyagi Sensei to be taught to beginners in karate training. They were designed to popularise Goju Karate and make it more accessible to those taking their first steps into karate.

Gekisai Ichi exercises equally both sides of the body. Techniques start out with the basics and progressively increase in difficulty to cumulate in some of the more advanced techniques of Goju.
The movement pattern is simplified with only forward, backward, left and right directions used.

All techniques in Gekisai Ichi are performed with closed fist.

Broseley Goju Kan typically teach Gekesai Ichi starting at White Belt (10th Kyu) grades

Broseley Goju Kan pratices a form of Yakusoku Kumite (striaght-line Kumite) for Gekisai Ichi Kata.
