Used to develop forearm and grip strength, this simple piece of equipment consists of a weight attached to a wooden handle by a length of rope. The weight can vary depending on your own strength. Hold the handle with the palms downwards and twist the wrists one at a time until the rope is wound onto the handle, and then reverse the action to lower the weight. Vary the grip for better all around development.

As with similar types of equipment the focus of the karateka should be on repetition rather than on lifting and lowering the maximum weight possible.
